6:00 PM • Cabanga Iate Clube
Recife, Brazil
Our Story
Cabanga is the Yacht Club where Gus learned how to sail as a little boy, and we spent wonderful times with friends during our teenage years.
This is also the same magical place where we got married in June 2001. Over the years, we've built countless precious memories here with our daughters and family while on vacations.
We even named our sailboat "Cabanga" - that's how much this place means to us!

Yes — as of April 10, 2025, United States citizens do need a visa to enter Brazil for travel (tourism, business, etc.). Brazil reinstated visa requirements for U.S. passport holders after having previously allowed visa-free entry; you must apply before traveling.
Brazil uses the Brazilian Real (BRL). Credit cards are widely accepted, and ATMs are available throughout the city. We recommend notifying your bank before traveling.
Portuguese is the official language in Brazil and English is spoken in tourist areas and hotels, but learning a few basic Portuguese phrases will enhance your experience! Most Brazilians will be happy to try to communicate in English, even if they are not fluent.
Recife is just 8 degrees south of the equator, so expect warm and humid weather. November temperatures average 77-86°F (25-30°C) with ocean water in the mid-80s. Perfect beach weather!
We strongly encourage you to stay extra days before or after the celebration! There's so much to see and do in the region. Check out our "Things to Do" section for ideas.
Brazil is generally safe for the most part, but also dangerous in some specific areas. You will be safe as long as you are aware of your surroundings and refrain from wearing flashy jewelry.
